If Cats Bathe Themselves, then Why Get Them Groomed?

Cats are prey animals (as well as predators) and depend on being smell-free in order to remain invisible to predators. You may not think that there are predators in your home, but cats are hard-wired to be prepared for anything. Walk a mile in their paws – you would see that the cat’s perspective means you too would want to bury your waste, keep clean, bury any food that you’re not going to eat, climb high up, or crawl under things. These are methods that they use to stay invisible. So, our cats are not vain; they are simply responding to a biological directive to survive. And, while cats do bathe themselves, the job is made much more difficult because of the processed diets that we feed them.

Cat Grooming

Cat Grooming Services

For the safety and comfort of the cat, please note that cats MUST be brought in some sort of a carrier. *

Our grooming is drug-free, and instead of restraints, we use Handlers – staff trained to hold kitties in a way that is gentle but firm, who keep the kitties calm and distracted while we work.

We carry the best cat carriers on the market. Consider picking one up and you’ll see the difference.

Usually, we have a 20 minute window in which the average cat will let us get done anything we need, but after that, they may feel the need to defend themselves. For that reason, we try our best to get kitties in as soon as they arrive, to minimize waiting and to maximize the amount of time we have to get the groom done.

Because waiting does sometimes happen, especially between when we finish and when parents who come back to pick up, kitties are actually happier to have a carrier to retreat into once the job is done. The carrier has a familiar smell to it, and it’s protection on all sides from all the weird and strange things (by cat standards) that groomers do.

With the summer, grooming has started booking out a week in advance for most weekdays and 2 weeks in advance for weekends at both locations. Cancellations do sometimes happen but are not the norm. We apologize for any delays in getting your kitty in, and thank you for letting us be the ones to help you and your kitty.

The Kitty Pedi – $5

We trim your kitty’s nails so you don’t have to!

This helps when your kitty is clicking, sticking, or accidentally hurting you. A standard adult cat can need a nail trim every 4-6 weeks, but kittens are very likely to need it more often.

Cats sharpen their nails by cracking off the outer-most layer of nail, revealing a fresh, sharp nail underneath, and as kitties age, this shedding may not happen as easily, dramatically increasing the chances of ingrown nails. Older kitties may need to be on a schedule to receive nail trims to avoid this happening.

The Kitty Pedi is the only exception to the rule about needing to make an appointment to come in. Nail trims are offered every single day after 11:30am, no appointment needed as long as it’s just the nail trim.

The Majestic Kitty – $55*

A classic lion cut is the most regal of all haircuts! This cut is a great option for longer haired cats who mat easily, who require extensive brushing, and for when the weather turns warm. In addition to being easy to maintain, a lion cut also provides many parents with hours of entertainment and can be styled with a full or pom tail.

Some kitties will show an improvement of mood after their haircut. This is speculated to be for one of three reasons: They’re no longer matted, they can maintain their fur much more easily, or they smell less. Kitties have a sharper sense of smell than we do, and hair (no matter how clean) collects scent. The less fur they have, the less they smell, and the less easily that predators can find them.
This service includes a nail trim.

The Velvet Kitty – $60*

The velvet lion is a longer version of the lion cut, but shorter than the fluffy kitty. If you love the classic lion, but you don’t like to see their pink skin, ask about the velvet lion. The velvet lion can also be styled with the full or pom tail.

The Fluffy Kitty – $65*

This cute cut resembles a teddy bear’s coat – Instead of shaving the cat’s hair down close to the skin, the hair is cut to 1/4″ – 1/2″ leaving the coat plush, fluffy, and soft. Nice alternative to the more popular lion cut.

May require a bath if the fur is too oily. A bath is a separate service at the full price of the Clean Kitty. If your kitty requires a bath in order to do the Teddy Bear, but you don’t want the additional cost, your groomer will recommend a lion cut.

Fur that is spongy, cottony, or otherwise extremely dense may not be suitable for a teddy bear cut. Due to the nature of the cut, any matting will make it painful to receive this haircut, and therefore will not be available as an option.
This service includes a nail trim.

The Clean Kitty – $70

Double lather warm bath using locally made natural shampoo. Blown dry in a kennel dryer, followed by a brush out leaving the coat clean, fluffy, and mat free. Nails are trimmed; eyes and ears are cleaned. We finish with a spritz of dental enzymes, which helps with plaque and freshens breath over continued use.

Ask about our itch-relief and unscented shampoos! No additional charge.

Dematting – $15**

A gentle dematting for your kitty! Any mats that are further away from the skin can be brushed out, but if they’re too close to the skin, for the comfort of the kitty, we’ll have to spot shave those mats.

** If the dematting goes over 30 minutes, we will have to charge for a second service. Your groomer will make every best effort to inform you before they start if they think that the work will be within that time frame or not, but the more that we’re allowed to shave mats out, the less time it takes and the less stressful it is on the kitty.

Brush out – $15

For when kitty’s coat is in good shape, few or no mats, and just needs some of that additional fur brushed out. This service does not stop shedding because only the fur that is currently loose can be brushed out. Hair that is lost later will still come free, but we use a series of brushes designed to get as much hair out as possible. This service is limited to 20 minutes of brushing.

The Proper Kitty – $20*

What is referred to sometimes as a “sani cut” or “sanitary cut.” This service shaves and cleans up both your kitty’s bum and belly.

  • Just the bum… $10
  • Just the belly… $15

The Itchy Kitty – $15

Are fleas wreaking havoc on your kitty? We treat your kitty with a Capstar pill to get rid of those pesky fleas. The Capstar pill starts working in about 30 minutes, and the maximum efficacy lasts for 4-7 hours but is still active for about 24-36 hours, giving you time to treat the home. If cat is treated but not the home, the fleas will jump back onto the kitty.

Treating the home – We sell and recommend Wondercide. This non-toxic spray can be used on your pet, your furniture and yard.

The Fresh Kitty – $30

This aloe based foam bath is massaged onto your kitty’s skin to break up oils & dandruff. No water necessary. Eyes, ears, nails, & teeth are tended to as well.

The Posh Kitty – $25*

Save your furniture with Soft Paws®. Soft Paws are hard nail caps that are extremely safe and non-toxic. The adhesive is the same type of adhesive used in many veterinary procedures. The caps and dried adhesive are non-toxic and completely safe. Soft Paws will not interfere with the normal extension and retraction of your cats nails. Your cat can still go through the action of scratching with Soft Paws® on, allowing for normal stretching and scratching behavior to continue – just no damage will occur! The Whole Cat and Kaboodle provides Soft Paws® for this service.

The Pad Trim – $5*

For those kitties who have extra long fur on their pads. Minimize slipping, sliding and litter tracking with this service that simple removes the unnecessary fur on the pads of kitty’s paws.

Microchipping – $20

Available for cats and dogs. We use NanoCHIP brand microchips, and the process of insertion is quick and relatively painless – just like getting a shot. Every chip is back-up registered to The Whole Cat and Kaboodle, so if your pet is lost before you get the chance to add your information to their microchip, we can have them brought to us to wait for your arrival!

* At The Whole Cat and Kaboodle, we stand behind our grooming services. If you are not satisfied with your kitty’s service within 10 days of its completion, please let us know! We do offer re-checks and will adjust your kitty’s groom free of charge. Only applies to the following grooming services: Majestic Kitty, Fluffy Kitty, Proper Kitty, Posh Kitty, and Pad Trim.
